Guns for Gift Cards?

August 21st, 2008 0 Comments

Recently in my city, police handed out $100 gifts cards to everyone who turned over a gun. The idea behind this program was to get guns and, therefore, violence, off the streets.

Watching the news of the Guns for Gift Cards program, I couldn’t help but laugh a little. Police had shopping carts lined up to collect the weapons. What were these shopping carts filled with? Old worn-out hunting rifles. Who wouldn’t trade a rusty old shot gun for a $100 gift card?

I know the intentions of the program were good, but who really believes that thugs are going to turn in their semi-automatic weapons for a gift card to their favorite mega store?

Gun Safety in the Home

August 21st, 2008 0 Comments

Any responsible person who has a gun in his home knows the importance of gun safety. If you have a gun and a child in your home, then the issue of gun safety becomes even more important. The holidays are coming up, which means many children will be spending extra time at home.

If you have a gun, please take the time to review gun safety. A good starting point is to never keep a loaded gun in the house. If it must be in the home, it should always be in a locked safe that is hidden from the child.

I’d love to hear others’ tips on gun safety in the home.
