Biometric Gun Safe
I live in a very rural area in the south. I’m just going to get that out there so everyone feels free to make assumptions about my lifestyle, education, and intelligence. The thing is, I do like guns. I actually own several and when I had my son I started thinking about gun safety. My husband and I considered a traditional gun safe, but decided that those are too easy to open. Well easy if you are determined.
That’s when we started looking into biometric gun safes. Most of them have the same kind of fire rating and can even be bolted to the floor like the bigger safes. The biggest difference is they are smaller (usually) and can be more expensive because of the technology involved. The ones we are considering are large enough for a couple of handguns as well as documents or jewelry.
The only way to open them is with a fingerprint scan. They are electric (have to run it somehow, right?) but have an internal battery backup. I think this is perfect because there is no way the baby (and he’ll always be my baby) could get into it. We haven’t completely decided if this is what we want, but my son is rapidly approaching the age where a decision has to be made.
Anyone want to give a recommendation or two?

What a cool idea — do you have any links to examples that you’ve researched?
